Meet the team
NG has a great mix of personality, talent and dedication. Click on the individuals below to find out more about our team and their roles.
Richard Sutton came to NG as a graduate in 1989 and since 2004 has concentrated on investment consultancy and brokering, portfolio evaluation and strategic corporate property issues. An example of this being the acquisition of the 250,000 sq ft Alfreton Trading Estate, following which he sold the largest unit on the estate to a local occupier and secured tenants for the other empty units to achieve 100% occupancy. He has now transacted investments worth over £150m, in predominantly ‘off market’ deals in the office and industrial sectors securing value for both purchasers and vendors. By acquiring premises this way, he has also been able to offer a greater degree of discretion, something the majority of private investor clients prefer.
In April 2013 Richard qualified as a Civil and Commercial Mediator, having completed a Training Programme with the ADR Group; a course fully approved by both the Law Society and the Bar Council
Richard joined the old Nattrass Giles in 1990, since which time he has seen the firm grow, move offices and evolve into NG Chartered Surveyors. Those 25 years of experience of the East Midlands property market includes the move in 2013 to West Bridgford.
NG’s Managing Director, Richard specialises in rent reviews, lease renewals and associated Landlord & Tenant work across the Country for a number of retained clients; property management of a large number of varied residential and commercial portfolios; building surveying services comprising primarily Schedules of Condition and Dilapidations for both landlords and tenants giving a unique insight into the other sides workings. These compliment and augment the full range of surveying services offered by NG Chartered Surveyors, enabling the firm to give clients comprehensive and timely property advice.
Richard is married to Belinda, and in his spare time is a keen cyclist and walker having undertaken a number of substantial outings in the last few years including walking the Comino in Spain, and cycling the C2C and London to Paris on the bike.
He concentrates on agency instructions in the office and industrial sectors, with a specific focus upon the acquisition of premises, both for owner occupiers and investor clients. By adopting a fresh and, at times, lateral outlook on all manner of instructions, Jonathon and the team pride themselves on their ability to achieve superb results on behalf of their clients.
Notable office deals include;
- A series of lettings at a Grade A office park in Leicestershire within an incredibly short time frame, resulting in 100% occupation of some 18,000 sq ft.
- Lettings totalling 15,000 sq ft on a city fringe development in Nottingham within 6 months over 3 separate deals.
Notable industrial transactions include;
- The sale of a 40,000 sq ft warehouse in Nottingham at a sum in excess of its asking price;
- Sunny advised on a speculative industrial development in Nottingham where units ranged from 5,000 to 15,000 sq ft completing the letting all the units within 6 months from practical completion;
- The acquisition of an 80,000 sq ft warehouse in Birmingham at half the property’s asking price!
Thinking outside the box Sunny also offers clever and practical solutions in landlord and tenant matters. In addition to this, he is well versed in handling lease renewals and rent reviews. Sunny is one of only a handful of multilingual Chartered Surveyors practicing in the East Midlands, which in turn allows NG to provide a very unique service to clients in the Asian Community especially in Nottingham.
Sunny works closely with fellow directors Richard and Jonathon who pride themselves in offering a director led service to clients. Married with 2 children Sunny devotes all his personal time to his family and friends.
Company Secretary and Director
Sarah is NG’s longest serving team member, having joined in 1985 as the office junior. Through hard work and mathematical prowess she now wears many hats including Practice Manager, Company Secretary and Director. Sarah is integral to the smooth running of the business.
James McArthur joined NG in May 2016 with over 15 years’ experience specialising in commercial property management. Before Joining NG he headed up the commercial management department of Chesterton Humberts regional commercial office.
James handles a diverse portfolio of properties from individual retail and industrial units through to larger industrial estates and multi occupied offices, dealing with all aspects of property management from rent collection, service charges, to planned maintenance programmes. Having studied law at University and moved from the dark side, it does give him a unique understanding of legal property matters.
He is clear in how he operates in that to deliver a high quality service in this field it’s about good communication and building strong relationships, not only with clients but also with tenants, contractors, colleagues and other professionals that you deal with on a daily basis.
It’s about finding solutions to problems and taking away the management headache from our clients whilst maximising the return on their property assets.
James is also an RICS Registered Valuer and deals with all professional matters such as lease renewals and rent reviews.
Outside of work James is married and has 1 child and is a frustrated golfer who is desperately trying to cure his slice and is prone to the odd 3 putt.
