2018- This was the year that was
19th December 2018
It’s now five years since the current directors at NG Chartered Surveyors led a management buy-out of the company and moved out of Nottingham city centre to West Bridgford.
More than a few eyebrows were raised when we announced our new head office was moving out of the city centre, but the decision has paid huge dividends.
Over the last five years, turnover at NG has doubled through organic growth brought about by sheer hard work, and our team numbers have risen to 12 professionals. We’ve invested in talent, and now our clients are reaping the rewards – and so are our staff, as we’re now an accredited RICS Inclusive Employer, the first firm in Nottingham to secure this accreditation.
We continually offer our staff pathways to improve themselves and, therefore, the service we can offer to our clients. A prime example of this came in June when we promoted James McArthur to shareholding director.
James took the step up two years after joining NG, during which time he more than doubled the size and turnover of our property management department.
As Richard Sutton, director at NG, said at the time: “James has really taken his role at NG by the scruff of the neck and brought it not only a large tranche of new business, but also extended our relationship with existing clients.”
Gender balance is vitally important in the workplace, and NG is leading the way locally. Suzannah Adcock, surveyor has been with NG for just over a year. She says: “I’m lucky: NG have been very supportive since I started with the firm. When I moved from my previous firm, my main aim was to become chartered, and I have been provided with a huge amount of support to enable me to feel that I am ready to sit in the autumn again.”
NG is not afraid to invest in the next generation of commercial property talent either. In July we invested in taking on Charlotte Steggles during her placement year. Charlotte is a second-year student studying BSc (Hons) Real Estate at Nottingham Trent University. She has plans to become a chartered surveyor after graduating.
Sunny Landa, director at NG is mentoring Charlotte over the year. He said: “NG has a reputation for nurturing the best talent in the East Midlands, and we want to try and replicate that with Charlotte. We realised immediately that her knowledge and passion for property matched our own, and we’re really looking forward with her over the next 12 months. This is a great opportunity for her to learn “on the tools” – one I’m sure she’ll grasp with both hands.”
Ending a year of considerable growth for NG, Jude Weston join the firm in December as an associate director. Jude joins the NG team having worked as a chartered surveyor across the East Midlands for the last 11 years, specialising in asset and property management for a variety of public and private sector clients.
NG always has one eye on the future, and in June of this year, we announced a major capital investment in the management software platform ‘Re-leased’.
Re-leased is cloud based which not only makes it extremely secure, but also affords superb levels of accessibility to NG clients. While NG retains full control of the system, the company’s clients can access pertinent data and documents in real time on an app that’s straightforward and easy to navigate.
Furthermore, tenants also have their own app in which they can download copies of pertinent documents along with reporting any maintenance issues. This immediately notifies the Property Manager, ensuring that any issues are dealt with as swiftly as possible and with total transparency.
A year of continual investment has been backed up with constant supply of commercial property deals that have helped growing companies throughout the East Midlands realise their relocation goals while landlords and investors continue to choose NG’s expert team to manage, let and dispose of their property portfolio. 2018 has been NG Chartered Surveyors’ most successful year to date, with more to come in 2019.
